30. August 2026 | Pierre Boulez Saal

múm performs »Sonnenuhr«

Melancholic, fragile, and quietly playful, the music of múm has always carried the distinct atmosphere of their native Iceland. It is a sonic language unfolding between experimental electronics, fleeting melodies, and expansive, immersive spaces. At Pop-Kultur Festival, they now present »Sonnenuhr« at the Pierre Boulez Saal – a new performative work that brings together a string quartet, electronic and acoustic instruments. The set-up is expanded by a sensor-based percussion interface, in which acoustic gestures shape electronic sound in real time. Conceived and performed by founding members Gunnar Tynes and Örvar Smárason, »Sonnenuhr« blends new compositions with specially reworked versions of selected, more introspective pieces from múm.

Anushka Chkheidze & Robert Lippok

Sometimes those transnational ideas of collaboration that so often remain theoretical do, in fact, come to life. The collaboration between Georgian musician Anushka Chkheidze and German musician Robert Lippok is one such rare case: organically grown, open in process, and sonically distinct. The two first met in Tbilisi in 2019 during a workshop centred on the idea of a »plug-in« architecture: modular sound structures designed to be endlessly recombined. In retrospect, it reads almost like a blueprint for the way they work together today.

Pop-Kultur is more than concerts – it brings the most important themes, trends, and talents of Berlin’s music scene to the stage and explores how pop culture shapes society today and tomorrow. This is where fans discover new favourite acts, artists find creative freedom, professionals debate key issues – and emerging talents get real opportunities.
